Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between various types of pinch force, upper extremity functions, and activities of daily living(ADL) of stroke patients according to object size and shape. In addition, we tried to identify the variables of pinch force that affect upper extremity functions and ADL.

Methods: This study was conducted from February 17 to April 17, 2021 as a cross-sectional study. Data for analysis were collected from 16 stroke patients. The collected data were the pinch force of four types of objects, the Manual Function Test(MFT) scores, and the Korean version of modified Barthel Index(K-MBI) scores.

Results: Among the pinch forces on the four types of objects, the pinch forces on the peg (12mm¡¿20mm) and the panel (25mm¡¿18mm) had a moderately significant correlation with K-MBI (p<.05). We confirmed that the peg (12mm¡¿20mm) had a significant influence on K-MBI (adj.R2=.292, p<.05).

Conclusion: As a result of this study, it was confirmed that the force to pinch the widest peg (12mm¡¿20mm) had a significant influence on ADL. The results of this study suggest that it is necessary to evaluate the pinch force for objects of various sizes and shapes in the hand pinch test of stroke patients. In addition, the test results of various types of pinch can be used as a variable to predict the level of ADL.
